Lady Vietnam is a cozy Vietnamese restaurant and café on Yongkang Lu. It isn’t exactly new—it opened in July last year—but few people have heard of it! The service is lovely, the space homey, and the portions massive.
Few people venture to Yongkang Lu since its bar-vibe died, but there are plenty of good cheap eats and excellent cafes down this street.

The menu runs the gamut of conservative Vietnamese favorites, including Banh Mi, cold noodles, pho, fried snacky things like baby squid and spicy clams, plus a few curry-over-rice dishes.
The Beef Combo (¥88) pho comes with braised beef shank, brisket, and tripe. I’m not an expert on pho, but this one is pretty good by my standard. The murky bone broth is flavorful, and the portion satisfying. Ask for fish sauce.

If you really want to fill up, I recommend the rice dishes. These are hefty portions. The curry chicken rice (¥65) is almost half a chicken’s worth of a serving and comes with an equally daunting portion of fragrant rice that has been cooked in spices and stock.

They have Vietnamese drip coffee (¥38)—the one that slow drips into a cup of thick condensed milk—and an assortment of coffees, teas, fruit juices, and simple cocktails.

In Summary
It’s in my neighborhood. I pop in once in a while for a no-frills lunch. The amicable service makes the place and food is tasty and affordable, too. If you live in the area and want to change things up, this is another option.
