Soba Monbei (Xintiandi)

Soba Monbei (纹兵卫) is a longstanding Japanese soba noodle shop that has been serving Shanghai since 2007. The original location is on Xinyi Road in Hongqiao, this Xintiandi location is their eighth shop.

The menu centers on buckwheat noodles served chilled alongside concentrated dipping sauces meant for dipping, not soaking. The Soba with Selected Tempura (¥80) is the classic order, pairing prawns, fish, squid, and root vegetables with a cold tsuyu dipping sauce. The Pork in Sesame Paste (¥55) offers a creamy, nutty alternative, while the Pork Soboro (¥55) brings a hot, rich dipping sauce. Beyond soba, the menu extends to sushi, sashimi, grilled dishes, and udon.
