The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund has transformed their outdoor mezzanine into a fully festive Nordic Yuletide Village for Christmas, open from December 8 to December 24!
Nordic Yuletide Village at The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai

Inspired by the magical haven of Santa’s mystical hometown, this festive village brings the Northern European winter experience to life through cozy cabins and huts, lively song and dance performances, Nordic food, and warm drinks with an utterly Christmassy atmosphere.

It’s an amazing space that’s oozing with Christmas feels — a see-through igloo for Santa meet-and-greets, an Elf’s Workshop for DIY wreaths that welcomes participants young and old, a puppet theatre with bilingual shows for the kids, and a makeshift fireplace lounge for those looking for a respite or a photo-op.
Plus dozens of Christmas trees of all sizes and a snow machine.

Entertainment
For entertainment, there is a whole rundown of performances throughout the evening.

Roaming the grounds are charming stilt-walkers pausing to greet guests, a Nutcracker magic show led by a boisterous magician, a three-piece live band serenading the audience with jazz, explosive dance routines by the Rockettes who prance out in Christmas attire, and a lively swing dance troupe that sways the audience to join in.

A highlight of the evening is a high-production 3D light show, projected onto the entire façade of the hotel — the lights dim as a shimmery and sparkly Christmas montage illuminates the night. It’s the next best thing to fireworks.
Food and Drink
Festive cabins serve up Scandinavian delicacies, representing the five Nordic nations of Swedish, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and Norway.

Food offerings include Swedish shrimp toast (Toast Skagen), Danish-style marinated herring, slow-cooked venison sandwiches inspired by Iceland, Finnish meatball stew and baked potatoes, and Norway’s “Success Tart” an almond cake topped with custard frosting.

And if that isn’t enough to satiate your appetite, you can sink your teeth into a giant turkey leg.

Other chalets also have Lindt chocolates, Nespresso coffee, and plenty of festive drinks.

As for drinks, there are plenty of winter beverages and cocktails, including Perrier Jouët Grand Brut Champagne (¥108), festive cocktails (¥78), mulled wine or glögg (¥68), mocktails (¥68), sparkling tea (¥58), and hot chocolate (¥58).
An absolutely festive atmosphere is to be expected! Great for photo-ops, especially for the kids or family pictures. The Village has benches next to Christmas trees and cabins set up for photo-taking. There’s also a seating area with heat lamps.
