Sake Ichi (酒一烧鸟酒场) on Dagu Lu is a reliable yakitori and izakaya spot in Shanghai. Open since 2019, this late-night restaurant from the Sake-X Group (Sake Ichi Oden, Ichi Roll, Fuxing Bistro) specializes in affordable skewers, izakaya favorites, koji-marinated beef, and Chinese-inspired dishes. In addition to their signature Akigawa chicken skewers, they also do “duckitori,” selected duck cuts grilled over binchotan charcoal. Must-order skewers include: chicken thigh with leek (duh), wagyu fat cap with leek, pork mentaiko rice cake roll, and white eel.
For drinks, it’s ice-cold whisky highballs and flavored highballs. The space is straightforward, if not a bit spartan, with counter seating ideal for solo diners or couples, comfortable tables, and private rooms upstairs.
