Wei Xiang Zhai is the go-to spot for sesame noodles (majiang mian 麻酱面). Inexpensive and oh-so satisfying, these whip-taut noodles are coated in a creamy, nutty sauce and a splash of chili oil. Eat like the Shanghainese do with a touch of vinegar to cut the richness. The restaurant runs like a machine and it’s hectic with people jostling for a place to sit, and no matter the time of day, you’ll find a line snaking out the door. Order at the counter and hover over tables to snag an open seat.
