A Niang Noodle Shop (A Niang Mian Guan 阿娘面馆) is a bastion for Shanghai-style noodles. The canteen opens early and quickly fills up with a line out the door. The space is spartan — a simple dining room for a quick bite. Signature noodles to get are the yellow croaker noodles (黄鱼面), available in two versions, a light brown-ish soup seasoned with soy sauce (¥35) and one that’s milky in appearance, made with fish bones, and intense in flavor (¥60). Another signature is the crab noodles (¥70), topped with a generous amount of crab and crab roe. Order and pay at the counter.
