Ochiyo
Tucked down a lane house compound is Ochiyo (御千代·鮨), a low-key yet high-caliber Japanese omakase restaurant led by chef-founder Sun-San. Every omakase meal is different, as Sun-San sources (even imports his own) seasonal ingredients from all over, featuring baby eels (only available for a couple weeks) to whole slabs of top-grade whole tuna fish. He does a form of Kaiseki, a multi-course meal of not only sushi and sashimi, but also amuse bouche, soups, grilled and simmered dishes, tempura, etc.
The dining room is cozy with a six-seater bar (seven at a squeeze), two dining tables, and a private room. It also opens for lunch, and the menu is done at amazing value, serving up solid sushi (minus a few prized cuts). Book the bar seats for dinner.
As of 2024, lunch is ¥698 and dinner is ¥1,100 per person.
Sun-San also operates Sushi Brother, a casual sushi bar.
