Update: This venue is now closed.
That’s right. The infamous Diner now has a third location near Xintiandi, plus they’re serving a seasonal pumpkin soup bread bowl that’s to die for.
And yes, there was already a second location of Diner in Plaza 66, which opened July this year.
Where Is Diner 3.0 Located?
At 441 Madang Lu within Unifuns, a new complex beside the also-new LuOne mall. The complex is mostly restaurants, bars, and cafes amidst a towering office building. It’s actually a collab space with Nininio, a multi-brand lifestyle store.
If you’re in the vicinity of Madang Road metro station (Line 4 and 6), this will be a convenient stop.
Get the seasonal Pumpkin Soup (¥50). The pumpkin soup is thick, possibly equal parts cream to pumpkin, and is served in a hollowed out bread bowl.
Available until the end of winter at both Plaza 66 and Madang Lu venues.
And while you’re at it, order the The Reuben (¥108), too. This is a monster of a sandwich, stacked with layers of sliced smoked pastrami, gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, and spicy Russian dressing on caraway rye bread. Served with pickles and whole-grain dijon mustard. Time to update my favorite sandwiches list.
Haven’t heard of Diner?
Diner is where you’ll find the kind of breakfast foods you dream about after a night of heavy drinking.
French toast with foie gras, pancakes topped with crushed Ferrero Rocher, and burgers with undulating layers of smoked pastrami. The over-extra American diner food on steroids is courtesy of chef Austin Hu.
The first location opened on Wulumuqi Zhong Lu in May 2017 to much fanfare, drawing lines out the door and making it the summer’s most sensational opening.
However, the Wulumuqi Lu location is temporarily closed. The powers that be are working on getting it back up again.
Meanwhile, you have two other locations to sate your craving.
