Albaluz is a traditional Spanish restaurant in Shanghai, serving tapas, BBQ Iberico pork ribs, paella, and fideua from the same address since 2014. It’s located within the Hengshan Fang complex, in a two-story building with rustic charm and a cozy patio with outdoor seating.
The food philosophy here is simple: do the classics and do them well. Expect hand-carved Iberico ham, garlicky prawns in oil, and barbecued Iberico pork ribs that regulars keep coming back for. The paella and fideau (vermicelli), are excellent, full-flavored and totally unwatered-down. The seafood one is recommended. Don’t miss the chocolate molten dessert.
It’s run by proprietor Jessie Peng, whose love for Spain runs deep enough to import her own wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
