Pepite is a French seafood restaurant in Xuhui, Shanghai

Pepite

Pépite is a French seafood restaurant on Donghu Lu in Shanghai, from the group behind Blaz and Babar, led by Chef Alexandre Marchon. The corner lot is hard to miss — a curved white façade with floor-to-ceiling windows, flung open even in summer. It’s a buzzy space with the kind of ease you’d expect from a seaside spot in the south of France. Inside, a central sharing table anchors the room, with counter seats peering into the open kitchen and street-facing windows that pull in the life of Donghu Lu.

The menu is seafood-forward and intentionally simple — whole fish, prawns, octopus, and seasonal catches cooked with care and paired with house sauces like beurre blanc and chimichurri. Chef’s specials are scribbled on white tiles above the kitchen, rotating with the season and featuring items like bouillabaisse. Wines swing French, with some natural selections in the mix. A quality, unfussy meal that doesn’t overstay its welcome.
