Road To Rome returns to The Ritz Bar & Lounge for a second season, showcasing a five-course Italian menu paired with cocktails.

The menu features modern and playful interpretations of Italian summertime dishes by Executive Sous Chef Davide Mastrangeli and new refreshing drinks by Louis Sun, Assistant Bar Manager.

The “Road to Rome” menu is served at The Ritz Bar & Lounge, The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai every Thursday to Saturday, at which time the oval-shaped bar transforms into a stage for Chef Davide to deliver his ode to Roman cuisine.

Born and raised in Rome, Chef Davide was encouraged to create a pairing menu inspired by all things Italian and the Slow Food Movement. Fine food best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. He’s supported by Louis Sun, who’s created the drinks pairing to go with the bites.

It’s a five-course menu with the option to pair each course with a drink, which includes non-alcoholic, cocktails, and wine. The set is ¥588 or ¥788 with drinks, served from Thursday to Saturday from 5:30pm to 9pm, last order 8:30pm.

Here’s what to expect:

Peppermint Elixir – Gin Crocodile, Doragrossa Menta Elixir, ginger chrysanthemum syrup, lemon, mint.
Tartlets to start. One with anchovies, black olives, tomatoes, and another with beef tartare, porcini, black truffle.
Amuse Bouche
Duck prosciutto over sweet melon with port wine reduction, fresh basil, and goat cheese.
Turin Melon – Gin Monsieur, Midori, yuzu, lemon, green apple, caramel. To complement the proscuitto.
Proscuitto e Melone 2.0
Carbonara, deconstructed. Egg, pecorino, guanciale, served with chicharron with fried pasta.
Pinot Grigio Jasmine – Pinot Grigio, jasmine tea, St. Germain Liqueur. Mellow and easy drinking.
Metamorphose Carbonara

A nostalgic family dish, and an ode to mom. Squid, squid ink, tomato, and shaved fennel.
Italian Tomato – Cynar, Martini Rosso, clarified tomato water, celery bitters, dried tomato.
Stuffed Baby Squid
Pear & chocolate cake. Named after a town in Piedmont near the Alps known for chocolate and summertime pears.
Verona Coffee Martini – Ketel One, vanilla liqueur, Kahlua, espresso, vanilla ice cream.

Date Night Deals & Free-Flow

The Ritz Bar & Lounge also has some packages for Road to Rome. The Double Date Night is a “buy three get one free” deal, valid for Thursdays only. And the “Night Is All Yours” is to privatize the bar for a minimum of 8 guests, maximum 10, which also gets you two complimentary bottles of Moët & Chandon Brut NV, available Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, The Ritz Bar & Lounge has a two-hour free-flow package that comes with oysters and bar bites. The free-flow includes house sparkling wine, red and white wine, and selected craft beers and cocktails.

Free-flow is ¥258 (originally ¥268) per person, which comes with two oysters OR two Ritz Yaki Gyu Niku beef. Or ¥568 (originally ¥598) for two, which comes with half a dozen oysters, a selection of cheese, OR a fruit platter.

Deal is valid from Thursday to Saturday, 5:30pm to 10:30pm.
