Yao Ji Iron Pot Stew (姚稷大铁锅) (Changping Road)

Yao Ji Iron Pot Stew (姚稷大铁锅) is a Chinese restaurant in Shanghai that specializes in Tie Guo Dun (铁锅炖), or “Iron Pot Stew,” a traditional cooking method from China’s northeastern Dongbei region.

The signature dish involves a large cast-iron pot placed at the center of the table, filled with a rich broth and a variety of ingredients such as free-range chicken, pork, vegetables, and noodles. A notable accompaniment is the corn cakes, which are affixed to the side of the pot to soak up the stew’s flavors.

Adding to the dining experience, Yao Ji also has live performances with song and dance, providing entertainment that reflects Dongbei culture. The restaurant is also known for its late operating hours, staying open until 4am. Multiple locations in Shanghai.
