About Celestial Court

Celestial Court is a refined Chinese restaurant at the St Regis on the Bund, Shanghai

Located on the fifth floor of The St. Regis on the Bund, Shanghai, Celestial Court is the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant, specializing in traditional Huaiyang cuisine with subtle Cantonese influences.

The stylish main dining room features elegant furnishings and offers an intimate setting with only six tables, accommodating a maximum of 24 guests. For those seeking a more lavish and private experience, there are six private dining rooms — ideal for leisurely meals in an exclusive atmosphere.

Private rooms have limited availability, minimum four people per room, but if you’re fortunate, you can secure one of these luxurious spaces, complete with a tea area where the meal begins with tea, freshly baked cookies (exceptionally good), and fruit.

Nomfluence Readers Sets

There are two sets specially curated for Nomfluence readers: ¥598 and ¥1,788 (valued at ¥1,388 and ¥3,688). Did I mention that it was a good deal?

Set For Four – ¥1,788

¥1,788 Set For Four
Available for Lunch & Dinner

I highly recommend the ¥1,788 set menu for four, available for both lunch and dinner. (Add ¥448 for an additional person.)

This set offers excellent value and includes three signature dishes: Lion’s Head Meatball, Fried Mandarin Fish, and Jianghuai-Style Chicken Casserole with Pork Trotters — the latter two served family-style. The other dishes come as individual portions.

Chef’s Recommendation Platter

The meal opens with the Chef’s Recommendation Platter, an appetizer featuring “crystal meat” (a pork aspic topped with vinegar), steamed dried fish with a touch of cooking wine, and thinly sliced crunchy celtuce.

Nanjing-Style Hand-Cut Meatball

The first signature dish is the Nanjing-Style Hand-Cut Meatball (Lion’s Head), served in a clear broth. The meatball is incredibly fluffy and light, and infuses the light soup with rich flavor.

Jianghuai-Style Chicken Casserole with Pork Trotters

Next come the family-style sharing dishes: the Fried Mandarin Fish and Jianghuai-Style Chicken Casserole with Pork Trotters

The casserole features free-range chicken and pork trotters slow-cooked for hours in soy sauce and aged Shaoxing wine, resulting in a fragrant, silky sauce. The tender pork trotters fall off the bone, their rendered fat boosting the chicken’s flavor. This dish pairs perfectly with rice — drizzle the sauce generously for an unforgettable bite.

The Mandarin Fish, also known as “Squirrel Fish,” is a classic Huaiyang banquet dish from Suzhou. The fish is carved and fried to resemble a squirrel’s tail, then draped in sweet-and-sour sauce and a few shrimp for dramatic presentation.

Beyond its crispy texture and comforting sauce, the best part is that it’s largely boneless.

Seasonal Vegetables

Following the sharing dishes, individual servings include Grilled Wagyu Beef (two slices of richly marbled meat), sautéed seasonal vegetables, and Shanghai-style scallion noodles

This menu also begins with a Chef’s Recommendation Platter, featuring Nanjing-style salted duck, marinated shrimp in rice wine, and sliced celtuce.

Hangzhou-style Fish Soup

Next is a hot and sour Hangzhou-style Fish Soup, a classic dish with a mild tang from vinegar and white pepper, served with tender fish flakes, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and tofu. It’s comforting and truly whets the appetite.

Gongbao Shrimps with Chili Sauce

The Gongbao Shrimps with Chili Sauce follow, featuring bouncy shrimp coated in the signature sweet-spicy sauce, accompanied by leeks that absorb all the delicious flavors.

A standout on this menu is the Braised Hand-Cut Meatball with Soy Sauce — the same fluffy pork meatball, this time glazed in a savory soy sauce and Shaoxing wine reduction and flambéed tableside.

Yangzhou-style Fried Rice with Black Truffle

The meatball pairs perfectly with the Yangzhou-style Fried Rice with Black Truffle — a match made in heaven.

This set also includes sautéed seasonal vegetables, as well as mango sago and fresh fruit to conclude the meal.
