Beloved French restaurant Bistro 321 Le Bec, led by chef-proprietor Nicolas Le Bec, is set to open a new location on the Bund in March 2026.
The new venue, Le Bec Bund, will be situated within The Bund City Hall Plaza (外滩老市府) complex in Huangpu.
This historic building, originally completed in 1914, has been newly restored and occupies an entire city block bordered by Henan Zhong Lu, Fuzhou Lu, Hankou Lu, and Jiangxi Zhong Lu. It is located just one block from The Shanghai EDITION and two blocks from the main Bund promenade.
Le Bec Bund will reside in a standalone, five-story neoclassical building within the complex’s courtyard.
While plans are still in the early stages — nothing is 100% set in stone — the current layout for the new location looks something like this:
The ground floor will operate as all-day dining with sections for the bistro, a coffee and cafe area potentially offering petit pot-based bites and wines similar to their Epicérie 62 on Xinhua Lu, alongside a butchery and retail space, with al fresco seating planned for the courtyard.
The second floor will host an upscale French restaurant (though not fine-dining) also led by Nicolas Le Bec, seating about 50 people with an average check target of roughly ¥1,500 per person.
The third floor is designated as an event space, while the fourth floor will feature a public wine cellar complete with a bar, a snack menu, live music, and four private rooms. Additionally, the basement will serve as a private wine cellar for storing the wines they import from France.
This development, however, raises a pressing question:
What will happen to the original Bistro 321 Le Bec?
A fixture on Xinhua Lu since 2014, Bistro 321 Le Bec is a Shanghai dining institution, and has firmly established itself as a go-to destination for many.
The lease for the villa is set to expire at the end of March 2026, a timing that may be coincidental. According to proprietor Yu Le Bec, the hope is that Bistro 321 Le Bec can remain at its current location, but a definitive confirmation is expected later this year.
The Le Becs, a true power couple, are poised for a momentous year as they navigate this major expansion.
