Coming Soon
VICE

Coming mid-late May is VICE, a two-storey bistro and bar located on Jiashan Lu, near Yongjia Lu. The venture is backed by Raffe “Wolf” Ibrahamian, the founder of Cantina Agave, who, after nearly two decades in the industry, has decided to add a new concept to his name.

Designed by hcreates, the ground floor will house a bistro serving globally-inspired small plates — and, according to Wolf himself, it will be a “great brunch spot.” This level also features a street-facing terrace.

Upstairs, the second floor will be home to a cocktail bar and lounge with a private room and balcony, serving ace martinis, Rob Roys, and Cosmos. Of course, they’ll also have an extensive wine menu, too.
HANRO

Tom Ryu of Nabi and Wuli is opening HANRO, a Korean BBQ restaurant scheduled to launch this May at KWAH, located on the corner of Donghu Lu and Xiangyang Bei Lu. HANRO, which translates to ‘Korean Grill,’ will be a two-story space spanning 600 square meters. They’ll be serving up a unique BBQ experience featuring wet-aged and dry-aged meat, alongside Korean imported soju.
Goodman
Smash burger joint Goodman will open on Yanping Lu in Jing’an, in the former Little Catch / Matto space next to Yeats and Terrakota. This opening is set for late May.
Alma de la Luna

Luminary mixologist Yao Lu of award winning The Union Trading Company is opening a new cocktail bar this June called Alma de la Luna, a Cuban-inspired concept on Xiangyang Bei Lu in Jing’an.
Yes, there will be rum, but that won’t be the only spirit featured on the drinks list. The bar will also serve Cubanos and other food items.
Now Open
Kora

We’re getting West African food! Kora (formerly Circle Lab) has just opened at 200 Xinhua Lu, serving West African dishes like yassa, maafe and thieboudienne, and jollof rice.
Following their grand opening on May 16, they’ll host pop-up events showcasing even more diverse African cuisines.
F&B in the FUFU Complex

The FUFU complex on Donghu Lu is really coming to life. F&B additions include Hikiniku To Come, a Tokyo-born concept serving Japanese hamburger steak over rice. Reportedly, the queues for this place have died down, in case you were wondering.
Hasa House

Another is HASA HOUSE, a multi-concept brand combining a fitness studio with F&B and retail. You can grab post-workout fuel at HASA KITCHEN, which features an Italian-style espresso bar on the ground floor serving functional smoothies, sandwiches, and grab-and-go items. The second floor is a sit-down space offering hearty breakfast and lunch plates that are also diet-tailored. Soft opening on May 6.
野人先生 Gelato

Also at FUFU is the flagship store of the rapidly growing gelato chain Ye Ren Xian Sheng (野人先生), which offers “Eastern-inspired” fresh-made gelato, featuring unique flavors like Wuchang rice, jasmine, waxberry, and Sichuan peppercorn, freshly churned and served when ready, with select flavors changing by the hour.
The brand reportedly has over 1,300 stores across China!
Shanghai Michelin Guide 2026

The Shanghai Michelin Guide 2026 was released on April 9, awarding 51 restaurants with stars and 35 with Bib Gourmands. View the full list here.
Dal Cuore X ELG

And this one, I’m a little late on. April is Autism Acceptance Month. Special education provider ELG and Dal Cuore are partnering up to spread awareness, one scoop at a time. The flavor of the month is Strawberry Spark, made with strawberry, condensed milk, and strawberry popping candy.
Capri in Xintiandi is now just “Bottega”, serving the same menu as their other locations.
Also, cocktail bar Penicillin Shanghai is back open! The Asia’s 50 Best Bar team from Hong Kong reinstated the space on Nanchang Lu last week.
Closures

This one is heartbreaking: Ah Niang Mian (阿娘面) has closed. What?!
The beloved noodle shop shut its doors earlier this April, reportedly on the same day the Shanghai Michelin Guide was released, April 9. The guide had once again awarded it a Bib Gourmand rating, a distinction it had held for many years. Operating on Sinan Road since 1993, the shop was best known for its yellow croaker noodles.
Boom Boom Bagels on Anfu Lu has closed, along with Our Fork (the spot located out front of The Cannery).
Contemporary Korean restaurant Namu also closed in February.
