Yatai Ramen

Yatai Ramen (南波碗屋台拉面) is a permanent ramen cart in Xuhui, serving up a combination of Japanese soup-based noodles as well as localized iterations. Located in a quiet ally, the wooden cart feels like it was plucked from a Fukuoka curbside and dropped right into Shanghai. Counter seating at the cart, just like in Japan, plus a few terrace tables. Behind the bowls is Tsukasa Higashi, a Japanese chef who approaches ramen with a creative spirit rather than a classically trained ramen master. Expect noodles with rich (but not too rich) tonkotsu based broths to riffs on dan dan noodles. A small selection of kushiage (fried skewers) are also available. Beers aplenty.
