Sober Company reopening in Shanghai's Fuxing Park.

Sober Company has found a new home inside Fuxing Park, according to an announcement on their official WeChat account. They just broke ground—opening is set for late summer. Sober closed last June, news here.

Terrakota, a new concept led by chefs Juan Campos (RAW, Sakaba Malabar), Aitor Olabegoya, and Owen (ex-Azul) is opening end April/early May in Jing’an. European bistro with Mediterranean and Atlantic roots with seasonal and local ingredients. There’s a glasshouse terrace with integrated greenery. More details soon.

Suzie Garden

Suzie Garden, mentioned in the February Scoop, has an opening date set for May 19. Though, it could be earlier!

Italo closed, in its place will be La Vita, another Italian restaurant opening end April.

WAZA is a modern izakaya opening soon at Hengshan 8.

New Restaurants & Bars

Candor

After three long years, Candor has reopened in the same location at the Lyceum Theatre, intersection of Maoming Nan Lu and Changle Lu. Cabaret performances are back on the weekends!

There’s also a piano lounge on the second floor. Cocktails, punch bowls, and wine for drinks, and a food menu courtesy of Andrew Moo (Yaya’s). Soft opening from April 13. Great vibes, excellent performances, bringing back that pre-2020 coolness.

PuR’aisin

From Purus wine bar comes another wine bar called PuR’aisin, located in Changning at 300 Xuanhua Lu. Like Purus, PuR’aisin also does Chinese small plates, this time with a focus on Yunnan cuisine, paired with natural wines.

Maolago Bitter is a restaurant and wine bar that serves contemporary Guizhou cuisine, by the OHA Group.

The latest addition to OHA family is Maolago Bitter at 318 Julu Lu, above Pass Residence. It’s a similar concept with Maolago (Sour) on Fuxing Lu. This venue, Maolago Bitter showcases a novel interpretation of Guizhou cuisine while also embracing naturally bitter ingredients as a guiding principle, infusing them into the dishes. Small plates and hotpot with their own brand of drip wine. Currently in soft opening.

So Mezze by Pasha opened in Shankang Li, Jing’an.The menu features a lot of the favorites from Pasha, but more mezze-centric. Plenty of Mediterranean mezze plates, as well as quite a few new dishes in addition to the burgers and grilled meats.

Shortly after opening their Changle Lu location, Papito Pancakes has followed up with yet another at 340 Nanjing Dong Lu.

The group behind Bourbon Cookhouse has now opened Selva, a restaurant and bar with all-Latino menus with a Peruvian touch, courtesy of group chef Hugo Rodriguez. Located by the Hongqiao Railway Station at Hongqiao Tiandi.

Chaco Pomelo opened at 578 Xiangyang Nan Lu, run by the same people behind Meraki. They’re a “borderless” grill concept, menu items are skewers with flavors inspired from around the world. Emphasis on wines for drinks.

Herasa is a small spice-driven concept featuring Sichuan and Mediterranean food. It’s opened by a formerly Sichuan-based Xiaohongshu food blogger (Baba巴巴). Opened at 306 Wulumuqi Nan Lu in February.

And I must have missed it but Beach House is open again as “Brezza by Beach House.” Very Instagrammy.

L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon closes its Bund restaurant. The Salon on the ground floor is still open, but who knows for how long more.

Other closures: Agnes (now JUNN Izakaya), Funkadeli (Yanping Lu), Italo, Drinks & Co.
