About Scena di Angelo
The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong partnered up with consultant chef Angelo Agliano of Michelin one-star Tosca di Angelo, The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. Chef Angelo introduced his brand of Mediterranean cuisine to the menu at Scena last October, a flourish of Italian coastal flavors.
Brunch is a much more casual affair compared to dinner, and has a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. Plus, Scena di Angelo’s locale, perched on the 52th floor of the hotel with panoramic views, makes for an impressive destination for celebratory brunches.
Scena also has a massive private dining area that seats guests at a long table, great to large groups. The private area also has a few lounge seats. Suitable for celebrations, birthdays, etc. No minimum to book, maximum capacity is 30 people.
Weekend Brunch at Scena di Angelo Shanghai
Available every Saturday and Sunday, the weekend semi-buffet brunch at Scena di Angelo is ¥398 per person, good value for the high quality selection of dishes, which includes one main course and the buffet spread.
Free-Flow Champagne
Free-flow starts from just ¥180 for three hours of unlimited drinks, including sparkling wine, white and red wine, beer, cocktails, and digestif. Upgrade to include free-flow Perrier-Jouët champagne for ¥380!
Mediterranean Buffet
As for the buffet, it is a quintessential Mediterranean spread. On offer are antipasti, cheese and cold cuts, freshly baked focaccia, salad, and chilled seafood.
Cold antipasti dishes include vitello tonnato, seared tuna tataki, mini burrata and tomato salad, endive and blue cheese salad, and a salad bar. There are at least four kinds each of cold cuts and cheese. I’d make a beeline for the bresaola (cured beef) and the smoked scamorza cheese! For seafood, it’s a selection of chilled dishes like octopus salad and steamed prawns.
Brunch includes one main course, made-to-order. Options include seabass, chicken breast, Angus beef tenderloin 300-day grain fed, marinated black cod (supplement ¥198), and a grilled Australian Rangers Valley M5 wagyu beef rib-eye (supplement ¥298).
The seabass is excellent, but the black cod is superior, buttery and sea-fresh, served with eggplant purée and zaalouk Morrocan dip. The tenderloin has its merits, but the M5 rib-eye is undeniably the prized cut, well-marbled and beefy in flavor, served with lashings of delicious jus.
Dessert
For dessert, the selection includes classic Italian sweet treats like tiramisu and cannoli, plus cakes, ice cream, and bite-sized puddings, tarts, and fruit.
Don’t miss the castagnole, Italian fried dough balls akin to donuts. It is best enjoyed with its accoutrements of marmalade, whipped ricotta, melted chocolate, and berries.
Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm; ¥398 per person, add ¥180 for free-flow sparkling, wine, and cocktails or add ¥380 to include free-flow champagne.
