The Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai is the coffee giant’s premier destination store in China, located in Jing’an district, Shanghai. Opened in December 2017, this two-story, 2,700-square-meter wonderland is the world’s third-largest Starbucks store and is entirely dedicated to the spectacle of coffee and tea.
At its center stands an impressive two-story 40-ton copper cask, adorned with more than 1,000 traditional Chinese stamps, hand-engraved to narrate the story of Starbucks and its Reserve coffee. True to its name, roasting also happens here. Green beans roasted on-site travel through swooping copper “symphony” pipes, whizzing through the air to cool before filing directly into silos at the coffee bars.
The ground floor features three coffee experience bars, one of which is the longest Starbucks coffee bar in the world, stretching an impressive 26.9 meters. As a special tribute to China’s tea culture, the Roastery also features the nation’s first Starbucks Teavana Bar, offering a modern tea experience. It is also home to the first Princi bakery and cafe in Asia, which produces fresh baked breads, pastries, and pizzas daily. Completing its innovative offerings, it was the first Starbucks in China to integrate an Augmented Reality experience. The second floor is also home to Bar Mixato, the flagship location of Starbucks’ cocktail bar program in China.
