Founded in early 2021, KLAY is a modern Indian restaurant in Jing’an led by chef Hardeep Somal. The food is contemporary Indian, and is similar to what you’d find at upmarket Indian restaurants in the London or LA — traditional roots with global influences.

On Monday evenings, they run an amazing deal on their Lamb Leg Biryani for just ¥199.

The dish is available on the a la carte menu for ¥488, a whole leg for 3-4 to share. But on Mondays, they do a smaller portion (but not by much) for 2-3 people to share.

The lamb leg is slow-cooked with heady spices and a curry rub until fork tender, then served atop fragrant biryani rice with wild mushrooms and a tandoori masala roasted onion. The lamb also comes with sauces; raita, green herb chutney, lamb curry, and butter chicken curry.

I would say this deal night is sorely under attended. So I’m here to tell you that you should really be taking advantage of this!

I think the portion is enough to make two people very satisfied. But if it’s more than two to share, perhaps you’d need one extra dish to share.

By the way, selected beers (Estrella Galicia) are only ¥20 on Mondays.

Other dishes on the menu include the Chef’s Special Sri Lankan Crab Curry. The Crab Curry uses jumbo Indonesian crabs, cooked in the “Sri Lankan style” with spicy onion-y curry.

The thick spice-rich curry is peppery and fragrant, and clings to the fleshy crab meat. Served alongside are toasted brioche slices, used to scoop up any remaining curry.

Coming soon are some really addictive Duck Samosas! I had the pleasure of testing out these super duper juicy flavor pockets last week. Keep your eyes peeled for those.

Otherwise, for another sharing dish, you can always default to the Butter Chicken, the signature at KLAY. Grilled chicken is served in a full-flavored creamy curry. The curry has a hint of tanginess from spiced tomatoes, rich in butter and cream, and carries a spicy kick. It’s ideally paired with rice or naan.

But really though, don’t miss out on the lamb leg biryani deal on Mondays from 5:30pm to 10pm, which is available until the foreseeable future.
