The Space

FuXing Bakery an all-day bakery and bistro by Sake-X Group (Sake Ichi, Ichi Roll, etc.) Like all restaurants on the ground level at INS, FuXing Bakery has covered outdoor seating, currently winter protected with a plastic tent. Inside there’s the bakery display followed by a very cozy bistro-esque dining room in the back.

Baked goods cover all the bases, including freshly baked baguettes and loaves, cakes, pies, and even egg tarts. Their head baker carries with them some pedigree, and has worked at other big-name bakeries in Shanghai, including Farine and Pate, both now closed.

The Food at FuXing Bakery

The food menu is courtesy of consulting chef Alexander Bitterling, formerly Something Dining & Bar. Dishes are easy-going brunch favorites and crowd-pleasing bistro food. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, pastas, roasts, and steak. Y’know, the staples. But jazzed up a bit here and there.

FuXing Burger (¥88) – Angus beef patty, avocado, fried egg, bacon, and lettuce. A tasty burger! The beef patty has a nice char and the bacon crispy. Also buy-one-get-one on Mondays.

Marinated Mackerel Tartine (¥68) – Sashimi-grade mackerel with tartare sauce, lettuce, and pickled fennel on toasted sourdough bread. Bright acidity from the marination and very appetizing.

Mackerel Cold Dog (¥38) – The same marinated mackerel as above, but in a mini hotdog bun with tartare sauce and pickles.

It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood. Would recommend for a casual everyday meal.
