Sage Gastro is a creative restaurant led by chef Jun Nishiyama, serving up unbelievably delicious “borderless cuisine”.  It’s the most interesting and exciting new restaurant I’ve seen this year (2023), and continues to wow and impress. It’s my favorite restaurant in Shanghai.

Flavors are brazen and bold with eyebrow-raising accents and memorable one-two punches. The food not only intrigues the palate but also brings a sense of comfort. It’s a small restaurant with only 22 seats, including a chef’s table for eight that faces the open kitchen. The setting is casual, interactive, and intimate.

Singaporean native Jun Nishiyama first trained as a pastry chef, spending time in Japan before joining Michelin three-star Ultraviolet. He opened Sage Gastro in August 2023.

New dishes are constantly added to the menu. Signature dishes include: Thrice Fried Chicken, Grilled Duck Hearts, Cauliflower Mushroom, Parisienne Gnocchi, and P125 Chocolate. They also have an 8-course Discovery Menu for ¥940, which changes seasonally. Good selection of wines.
