Swedish café chain Wayne’s Coffee has just opened in Shanghai, joining the ranks of other franchises plowing their way through the Middle Kingdom.
About Wayne’s Coffee
The first coffee shop opened in Kungsgatan, Stockholm in 1994, then franchised in 1997. Locations dominate Scandinavia, but it has plenty locations around the world—more than 140 stores worldwide.

Wayne’s Coffee is all about Swedish culture. Their goal is to strive for the “ultimate fika” experience.
Fika is the Swedish word for coffee culture—friends sharing a cuppa with something to eat, anytime in the day—Y’know, basically what every café is about.
What sets them apart from other franchised cafés:

- Wayne’s Coffee has strong values on sustainability and organic products—all teas served are organic.
- Filter coffees and espressos are 100% KRAV labeled, 100% Rainforest Alliance certified and 100% organic farming certified.
- Cold press juices with no additive sugars.
- 100% biodegradable grass-based takeaway cups.
More sustainable concepts are always welcome.
For food, offerings are simple—wraps, bagels, salads, croissants, and other usual suspects. Freshly baked goods range from cinnamon buns and cookies to organic chocolate cakes and energy balls.

For Wayne’s, domination of China is obviously the goal, announcing their ambitious “to expand Wayne’s Coffee cafés across major Chinese cities.”

And something called Tom Tits is coming to China
Additionally, the franchisee of Wayne’s Coffee also owns the rights for Swedish entertainment concept Brainflow, and will be bringing a Swedish adventure and science park concept Tom Tits to China as a franchise. It’s like an interactive learning park for kids and young adults.
Looks pretty cool. Here’s some imagery from the website:
