Located next to Bottega, Coco Crew is the newest concept from BFB Group (Bottega, el Barrio, Forno). The space is small, awash in sunset orange with theatre-like seating and a counter with desserts on display.

They also have a spacious terrace and are dog-friendly inside and out.

It’s a café during the day, and casual bar in the evening, but the catch is that you can order your boozy drinks from open to close. It’s very beachside-tiki-bar-esque.

Coconut-Based Boozy & Non-Boozy Drinks

All the drinks are made with water from fresh coconuts, sourced whole from China and around Asia, cracked to order, strained, and poured into your cup.

Cocktails are courtesy of Peter Kwok, drinks creative director of both Coco Crew and Bottega.

Peter cut his teeth in Beijing and was previously the Bar Manager for Black Moth, a highly regarded cocktail bar that was also included in the 50 Best Discovery list, now closed. Peter has some serious chops on him, and his cocktails at Coco Crew are easy to love.

There are currently 8 boozy drinks. One them, the CocoLoco (¥55), is just a whole coconut spiked with tequila, mezcal, or white rum; other cocktails (¥50-60) range from easy-sippers to one in the style of a Boulevadier.

Also super cool is that some drinks have coconut water ice cubes, making them all flavor and no dilution.

Coco Pandan (¥60) – A tropical explosion! It’s so tasty I could sip on this all night (and day). Citrus-forward, zingy, and vegetal with a hint of spice. Fantastically refreshing and you get to enjoy coconut meat after.

London Summer (¥60) – Silky and creamy with a fresh burst of strawberry and bittersweet notes. It’s sophisticated and fun. London Dry Gin, Italian bitter liqueur, red vermouth, coconut cream, strawberry syrup, lemon juice, garnished with dehydrated coconut pulp.

Fig Garden (¥60) – Robust fig flavor in a Boulevadier inspired drink. Bourbon whisky, fig leaf sous vide in fortified wine, aperitivo mix, Amaro Montenegro. It’s a strong drink.

Oaxaca Fashioned (¥60) – Roasted coconut with a hint of smokiness. Toasted coconut chip infused tequila and mezcal, chocolate bitters, agave syrup, coconut water ice. Absolutely yum.

Coco Umeshu High (¥50) – Japanese umeshu wine with coconut soda, carbonated in-house. Savory and refreshing. There’s also the Coco Butter High, a highball with butter-washed whisky.

The non-alcoholic coconut drinks are all ¥32 for pure, electric (carbonated coconut water, Pocari sweat, sea salt, lemon), and activated charcoal-added.

Melon Fusion (¥34) is delightful, made with coconut water, oolong tea, winter melon tea, and coconut jelly. A Crew Special.

Coconut Desserts

Desserts are courtesy of consulting pastry chef Jacopo Bruni. Desserts rarely get me all warm and fuzzy inside, but the ones at Coco Crew do.

My favorite has to be the Tiramisu Éclair. It’s blanketed in powdered coconut, crunchy and soft, and filled with creamy tiramisu filling. Not too sweet either. It might look basic or boring—it’s anything but!

Piña Colada Tart (¥48) – Buttery crust with chewy bits of glazed pineapple tied together with a thick, creamy filling that is, again, not too sweet. Activated charcoal coconut water on the right.

Coffee Americano Puff (¥48) – Crunchy shaved coconut, light and airy puffs, and a powerful kick of coffee. Easy to share as it’s served as three puffs.

Thai Coconut (¥48) – Fruity filling encased in chocolate and made to look like a coconut.

Coco Crew also has some dope cookies. Cookies are ¥18 a piece, chocolate sea salt and coffee. The coffee one has a nice chew, and the chocolate is akin to baked fudge, both are insanely rich.
