Old Jesse (老吉士) (Tianping Road)

Old Jesse (老吉士) is a well-known Shanghainese restaurant that has been around since 2004, considered a mainstay for many. The restaurant occupies a modest, traditional Shanghainese lane house that reflects the area’s culinary heritage. The dining rooms are simple and tightly packed, spread across two floors, an extended room next door, and across the street at Constellation bar.

Signature dishes include the Braised Pork Belly, Scallion Fish Head, Crab Meat and Roe sizzling pot rice.

Getting a table at Old Jesse can be challenging, as the restaurant is frequently crowded, and wait times can be long. Even with a reservation, diners may find themselves waiting outside for their table, as the restaurant is a popular spot with high demand.

Multiple locations around the city, most in collaboration with other brands, but the Tianping Road location is the original and considered ‘the best.’
