About Ars & Delecto

After opening in the summer of 2018 as a sister bar to Tokyo’s well-known Bar Trench (No.39 on Asia’s Top 50 Best Bars), the eccentric craft cocktail menu at Ars & Delecto instantly appealed to high-brow connoisseurs and curious sippers.

Ars & Delecto (art and delight in Latin) is situated on Jinxian Lu, a sleepy street home an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, and chic shops. It’s a cozy space that resembles the likes of the small European cafes that line the streets of France and Italy. The ground floor seating area comfortably accommodates about 35 people.

Since A&D opened, they’ve always been cocktail-centric (and still are), but the global trend and wants of patrons calls for food with drink, and A&D is delighted to oblige. They launched an evening bistro menu pre-COVID, and have just kicked off the brunch menu.

Behind The Menu: Executive Chef Jonathan Wu

The team recently welcomed Executive Chef Jonathan Wu. Jonathan graduated from FERRANDIS French Culinary School in Paris and spent his formative years building on his French foundations at Michelin-starred restaurants, including L’Orangerie Four Seasons, Le Taillevent, and Restaurant du Palais Royal.

Jonathan’s inspiration for the menu at A&D comes from his culturally diverse background and his ability to understand both eastern and western palates. Unlike his fine dining background, the dinner and brunch menus at A&D are indicative of simple, comforting bistro dishes that act as a confluence for drinks.

Brunch at Ars & Delecto

The brunch menu is by standard a solid selection of diner favorites, including obligatory Benedicts, eggy mains, and a bomb katsu sandwich.

The usual brunch staple of eggs benedict is taken up a notch in the form of a Fried Chicken Benedict (¥85). The chicken is brined for 24 hours, battered and fried, and served atop avocado smash toast with two poached eggs and spicy hollandaise. A side of fries completes the plate.

It’s not brunch without a brunchy burger. And the Waaasabi Wagyu Burger (¥115) does not disappoint. Made with Chilean wagyu, the burger is smeared with a nose-tingling homemade wasabi mayo and topped with crispy fried shoestring onions. Served with pickles and fries.

Whatever you do, don’t miss the Hulk Katsu Sandwich (¥90). A thick cut of pork cutlet is breaded in crisp panko crust, sandwiched between velvety avocado spread, and comes with lashings of the requisite sweet-savory teriyaki sauce.More fries on the side.

Paying tribute to a French breakfast dish, Jonathan has a Foie Gras Toast Egg (¥70). It’s a sinful comfort food. Sourdough bread to dip into the luxurious bowl of creamy foie and runny eggs.

Drinks Situation: Free-Flow Brunch

Of course, there’s free-flow.

In addition to the regular cocktail menu, there are two free-flow options that run from 11am-3pm. It’s ¥180 for two hours of sparkling wine or ¥300 for two hours of classic cocktails (G&T, Paloma, Negroni Sbagliato, Hugo).

It’s A Neighborhood Brunch Spot

A&D will always attract the craft cocktail-aholics of the world, but now the venue is able to cast a wider net in appealing to brunch-goers. Some of the brunch dishes are also available on the evening bistro menu, including the katsu, burger, sirloin, and foie gras egg.

They’ll also be launching a new cocktail menu in the coming month! Keep an eye out for that.
