Shanghai is one of the most dog-friendly cities in China. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of restaurants, bars, and cafes that are pet-friendly — hopefully this shortlist will help you out.

Remember to be mindful of others. Keep your pets leashed at all times and ensure that they’re well behaved, especially if its a family-friendly venue.

If you have a big dog, do call ahead and ask if its OK. Some places aren’t big enough or equipped to handle large dogs. So please be considerate!

Also, policies change from time to time. And most times, it’s not a choice made by the venue! Please do call ahead if you are unsure, or if you’re bringing big-sized dogs.

To find the addresses, there are plenty of resources out there, but the main one is: Dianping. You can search for “宠物友好餐厅“ which means “dog-friendly restaurant” on Dianping for more options.

There’s even have a “secret paw menu” that you can ask for and get some free treats for your furry friends. “Starbucks Puppucino” which is essentially a cup of cream, and the Starbucks zero-shot Americano (iced water). Cute.

    1. Pie Society on Shaanxi Bei Lu will not turn away customers with pets! (They love pets.) But they don’t want to advertise that they are pet-friendly, as there are customers who dislike pets inside the shop.

    1. Most welcome! I’m sure there are a couple more places that I might have missed out. If you know of others, feel free to drop a comment! Thanks for reading <3

  1. 2 things

Real Shanghai Bar & Cafe is animal friendly

I went to Shanghai Brewery and they would not allow my dog in including outdoor patio seating.

      1. This is really helpful! Thank you so much 😊
Please keep update those restaurants that you went. Love all of your Instagram posts xx

Ps. I really want to try Polux in Xintiandi so I called twice to make sure if I can take my dog and they said yes but unfortunately when we arrived they don’t allow pets outdoor seating. So disappointed 😔

        1. Thank you so much! Just trying to help other pet owners in town!
Aww, sucks about Polux not letting dogs. Though, I’d imagine it a very high traffic place like Xintiandi wouldn’t really allow pets through.

  2. Chilis allow dogs outside.
Battery new York eatery also allow dogs outside.

Thank you so much for this list!

  3. Add Real Shanghai and The Hai for your next update. The hai has outdoor seating and dogs are allowed indoors as well 🙂

  4. Also Sister’s Bar&Restaurant allows dogs. Located within Jiashan Market. Inside and outside seating.

And Tan Cafe on GaoAn Road 101, allows dog’s and cat’s. It’s actually became quite some meet up.
